Blockchain Foundations

Learn how blockchain actually works — no prior knowledge needed. Build your foundation in hours.

Topic 1 of 5

What is Blockchain?

A blockchain is a distributed ledger — a growing list of records (blocks) cryptographically linked together and replicated across thousands of computers. No single authority controls it, making it tamper-resistant by design.

Topic 2 of 5

How Blocks Are Built

Each block contains: a batch of transactions, a timestamp, a nonce, and the hash of the previous block. This chain of hashes is what makes altering historical data computationally impossible without redoing all subsequent work.

Topic 3 of 5

Mining & Consensus

Miners compete to solve a puzzle — finding a nonce that produces a block hash starting with enough zeros. The winner adds the block and earns a reward. This Proof of Work mechanism secures the network.

Topic 4 of 5

Wallets & Keys

A wallet stores your private key — a secret number that proves ownership. Your public key (and wallet address) is derived from it. When you sign a transaction, you prove control without revealing the private key.

Topic 5 of 5

Your First Transaction

A transaction records: sender, recipient, amount, and your digital signature. Nodes broadcast it across the network, miners include it in a block, and once confirmed it is permanently recorded on-chain.
